Installing Lace Wigs
Wearing a wig for the first time can be a bit daunting, but with this step-by-step guide, you’ll be able to install your wig with confidence. Follow these instructions to achieve a natural and secure look.
Step 1: Prepare Your Natural Hair
Clean Hair: Ensure your hair is clean and free of oils and dirt.
Flatten Your Hair: Depending on your hair length and density, either braid your hair in cornrows or pull it into a sleek ponytail. For very fine hair, you can use the pin curl method.
Step 2: Apply a Wig Cap
Secure a Wig Cap: Place a wig cap over your hair, ensuring it covers your entire hairline.
Bald Cap Method: For a more secure and flat surface, use the bald cap method. Secure a nylon wig cap over your cornrows, ensuring it fits snugly.
Step 3: Adjust the Wig Size
Fit the Wig: Position the wig on your head and adjust the straps or hooks inside the wig until it feels snug but not too tight. This ensures a secure and natural-looking fit.
Step 4: Position and Secure the Wig
Position the Wig: Carefully place the wig on your head, aligning it with your natural hairline.
Secure the Wig: Gently press the front of the wig onto the adhesive or your hairline. Adjust the back of the wig to fit snugly against the nape of your neck. Use bobby pins or wig clips to secure any loose areas.
Step 4: Tint Your Lace (Optional)
Choose Your Method:
Makeup: Apply liquid or powder foundation to the lace area to match your skin tone.
Lace Tint Spray: Spray the tint directly onto the lace and let it air dry or blow dry.
Tint Application:
For foundation, use a brush to apply evenly over the lace.
For spray, hold the can a few inches away from the lace and spray until you achieve full coverage. Let it dry completely.
Step 6: Cut the Lace into Jagged Edges
Cut the Lace: Using sharp scissors cut the lace in a zig-zag motion to create jagged edges. This helps blend the lace better with your skin.
Be Cautious: Avoid cutting too much lace off or tearing the lace.
Step 7: Glue the Lace Down
Apply Glue: Use wig adhesive, got2b Glued Spray, or gel to glue the lace down.
Secure the Lace: Carefully press the lace into the adhesive, ensuring there are no bumps or bunching.
Step 8: Lay the Hairline
Wrap lace: Place an edge band or headtie where the lace meets your skin and leave it on for at least 10 minutes. This ensures a sleek and secure hairline.
